With the stay home orders you may be feeling a little cabin fever, there have been more rainy days then sunny days the last few weeks. Being cooped up in the house can cause you to do less exercise, and therefore your muscles may feel tight. Doing some stretching and moving about is good for your body and mind. When it does come time to get out and move around in the nice weather you might feel some negative effects of being still.
The same certainly applies to your vehicle. Being stationary in the driveway or garage may seem like it’s a blessing. You’re not putting on the commuter miles, you're not spending money on gas every week, you’re not due for an oil change because you haven’t gone anywhere. It seems like a good thing right?
Actually, not moving your vehicle can cause some issues with it that you wouldn’t expect.
The rainy weather we’ve had may have caused some rust to build up on your brakes and rotors. The rust will usually wear off when you drive it, but if it’s gotten really built up, you may have to address bigger problems.
Another issue that can become a problem is the hoses. They are meant to have fluid moving through them constantly while the car is running. Not running your vehicle can allow those hoses to dry up and crack, causing the fluids to leak and not go where it needs to be to lubricate your engine and moving parts.
One big thing to consider is the charge on your battery. Newer vehicles have so many components and electrical parts to them that if the battery loses it’s life it can affect the computer system. So all this being said, For your wellbeing we strongly believe that you should get up and stretch and take a walk if you can so that your muscles and joints get the activity they need, all while giving your head a little break away from the stress of work, or numbness of binge watching movies.
For the health of your vehicle, take a little drive every day or two. It could be just a few minute trip around the neighborhood, or to the store for some essentials. But make sure you get out on the road so that you can prevent some of the silent destruction caused from being sedentary.
