My vehicle failed emissions inspection. I brought it here and was told that I needed four new sensors at a cost of $2000. I brought it to another mechanic and It needed two sensors and two vacuum hoses to be replaced for a total cost of $470. Needless to say I will never go back to these thieves again
Hi Andrew, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We always like to hear from our customers, even when the feedback is not positive because it helps us do a better job. I would also like to thank you for being a customer for over a year. Up till this point, you’ve trusted us to do a lot of work on your truck and that means a lot to me. Since I opened the doors of Automotive Magic in 2003, I’ve taken all customer reviews very seriously and since I was not personally involved in this job, I reviewed all of our notes and spoke to each of our team members who spoke with you and serviced your vehicle to get the details on your visits. Not only do we have very detailed internal processes and procedures in place to handle pulling codes and diagnosing the safety and reliability of your vehicle but we also subscribe to a professional automotive diagnostic software service that gives us a comprehensive picture of the true nature of a problem and what is needed to fix it. When many automotive repair shops pull codes for “free” you only get half of the story. In your case, we performed a comprehensive diagnostic when you first brought your truck to our shop back on March 9th of 2021. At that time we notified you of our service recommendations to restore your vehicle to a safe and reliable condition. That list included two O2 sensors and your catalytic converter. At that time you declined to do the majority of this work including the work on your O2 sensors and catalytic converter. In July you returned to diagnose a check engine light issue. At that time you again declined to do any of the deferred maintenance items we had suggested. You returned on August 24th because you had taken your vehicle to another shop that did some work but did not address the root problem as the check engine light was still on. Over the past year you have visited our shop 6 times and each time we have done our best to provide you excellent service. At the end of the day, we want our diagnosis to be right the first time every time and to make sure that every vehicle leaves our shop in a safe and reliable condition. I believe we have delivered on the first promise of an accurate diagnosis but unfortunately when maintenance is deferred too long, it doesn’t simply go away, it compounds. That being said, when you add up the parts and the digital diagnosis along with the scanner data we provided you, your job did not add up to $2,000. I’m not sure where this number came from. Maybe you were including the cost of deferred maintenance as well? I’m glad that you got the issues taken care of that allowed your vehicle to pass inspection but again, our main concern is that you continue to have a safe and reliable vehicle. I’m open to speaking with you anytime if you’d like to discuss the matter further or ever need help in the future. Best regards, Shawn Gilfillan Automotive Magic (973) 366 3777
